Patrick’s Review: Even though I read The Last Dive long before I read Shadow Divers, Bernie Chowdhury’s account of the life and death of Chris and Chrissy Rouse would seem like the perfect follow on to Shadow Divers. The book is filled with information about the Rouses as well as many other diving icons. However, I do not feel that it is very well presented. The writing is repetitive, choppy, does not seem to have a single constant thread and is a painful read. As an obsessed diver, I found the information in the book interesting from the perspective that I didn’t know it before. Yet, I feel that the book is much longer than it needs to be as it repeats much of the information presented. Also, Gary Gentile’s Shadow Divers Exposed: The True Saga of the U-869 calls some of the information in Mr. Chowdhury’s book into question. As I said in reference Gary’s book and Shadow Divers, I wasn’t there so have no way of knowing if The Last Dive is a true and complete account or whether Gary’s description is accurate. I imagine that both authors overstate their account to some extent. I suggest that you read all of them and decide for yourself. |
