Patrick’s Review: Susan Casey’s account of her obsession with the white shark, the shark attack observation station on the Farallon Islands and the biologists who conduct the research there is gripping, funny, thought provoking and a terrific read. “The Devil’s Teeth” is written in a manner that is incredibly interesting to the reader on several fronts. Before reading this book, I considered myself relatively knowledgeable regarding our toothy oceanic white friends but much of the information revealed was enlightening. Ms. Casey’s book also brings to light aspects of the lives of those colorful characters that study these incredibly beautiful, intelligent, and efficient killing machines and the unfortunate bureaucracy that they have to wrestle constantly to ply their craft. This book is the result of one woman’s obsession that is presented so well that it cannot help but leave the reader thirsting for more information regarding the people, the islands and the sharks that appear within its pages. I strongly recommend this book to everyone … it is excellent. |
